68, King's 61 In the second half, King¹s opened up with a 19-6 run and cut the margin to 42-39 with 10:34 remaining on a bucket by Tiffini Varrasse. Messiah then responded with a 7-0 spurt to take a 49-39 lead following a basket by Jess Mulberger and a pair of foul shots by Ehst. The teams traded short spurts until King's cut the lead to 55-49 with 2:42 left on a basket by Nikki Kingston. After the teams traded misses, King's began to foul with 1:46 left but Messiah responded by connecting on 13 of 15 shots from the charity line. King's would close to within 62-58 with 0:37 left after a three-pointer by Fran Monte, but Vouriotis hit 4-for-4 from the line while Mulberger canned a pair to seal the victory and move the Falcons onto the NCAA Sweet 16. Vouriotis led the
Falcons with a game-high 21 points, while Wedemeyer added 10. Denise Igo
led King's with 18 points while Kingston and Varrasse netted 17 and 12
points respectively The loss to Messiah marked the final game in the careers of seniors Denise Igo, Erin McCarron, and Maggie Widdoes. |
