Baldwin-Wallace 82, Defiance 63
BEREA, OHIO — The third-ranked and second-seeded Baldwin-Wallace women's basketball team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament when it beat third-seeded Defiance 82-63, at the Rudolph Urpsrung Gymnasium in Berea.

The Yellow Jackets will face the winner of the Guilford and Hardin-Simmons game being played tonight in Abiliene, Texas. The Sectional Tournament site will be announced tomorrow, Sunday, March 4. B-W will open Sectional play on Friday March 9.

The win was B-W's 14th in a row and the Yellow Jackets improve to 26-2 overall. Defiance, which had its 19-game winning streak stopped, ends its season at 23-5 overall.

B-W advances to the NCAA Division III sectional tournament for the second consecutive season. Last year, B-W reached the "Elite Eight" before falling to eventual national champion Washington (Mo.) University in St. Louis.

Leading the way for B-W was senior two-time All-OAC guard Kim Luthman with a game-high 22 points on nine-of-11 shooting from the field, including four-of-five three-pointers. She was joined in double figures by senior three-time Academic All-OAC guard Mandy Zolciak with 14 points, including four-of-five three-pointers. Sophomore All-OAC forward Holly Koepp registerd her fifth career double-dobule with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, senior two-time All-OAC forward Jen Nance scored 11 points and sophomore guard Natalie Winklefoos added 10 points off the bench.

In the first half, B-W used a 14-2 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 24-12 with 7:05 left when Nance hit Koepp cutting to the basket. Defiance closed the gap to five points at 25-20 with 2:33 left and trailed by seven points, 30-23, at halftime.

B-W opened the second half with a 22-7 run to increase lead to 22 points, 52-30, with 11:16 remaining. The Yellow Jackets built their lead to as many as 33 points with 3:40 left when Nance connected on two free throws.

Despite the loss, Defiance was led by Arin Gertsen with 18 points. She was joined in double figures by Jen Wachtman with 12 points and Lea Barrera and Renee Brickner with 10 points each.

B-W shot an impressive 63.3% from the field (31-of-49) in the game, including 9-for-14 from three-point range. The Yellow Jackets also dominated the boards, outrebounding Defiance 39-17.
