Messiah 70, Bethany 58
GRANTHAM, Pa. — Bethany had its season end Wednesday night with a 70-58 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Messiah. The Bison finish the year with a 17-10 record, while Messiah improves to 23-4.

Messiah opened the game strong, taking a 13-6 lead eight minutes into the contest. But Bethany clawed back, and off the strength of a 15-6 run, took its last lead of the game when freshman Katie Hardie hit a jumper with 5:36 remaining for a 21-19 Bethany lead. The Falcons answered back, closing the half with an 11-3 run and carrying a 30-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Bethany made several runs at the Falcons, but could never quite get over the hump. On five seperate occasions, the Bison moved within three points of Messiah but could never get any closer. In the second half, Messiah went 18-23 from the free throw line and went 33-43 from the charity stripe for the game. The Falcons attempts from the foul line actually outnumbered their field goal attempts (37) and canceled out the Bison's advantage on the boards (32-23). Messiah did shoot 49% from the floor (18-for-37), while Bethany hit 36% (18-for-50) and committed 26 turnovers.

Bethany was led by senior center Jill Kamerer, who scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior forward Raquel Burns was the only other Bison in double figures with 11 points and also grabbed nine boards. Messiah was paced by Christina Vouriotis, who scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Center Amy Hitz had 14 and Amie Kretzing scored 12.

Kamerer's career at Bethany ended with the loss. The 6-0 center finished her career with 1,914 points, tops in school history, and 762 rebounds, third in school history.
